PLASTIC

Plastic -  according to http://en.wikipedia.org/, is any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic solids used in the manufacture of industrial products. Plastics are typically polymers of high molecular mass and may contain other substances to improve performance and/or to reduce costs.

If we go down to the etymology of the word, plastic is derived from the Greek word "plastikos" meaning capable of being shaped or molded. It refers to its malleability or plasticity.

In layman's term especially here in the Philippines, we call someone PLASTIC when he/she is able to show goodness in front of you, all smiles in front of you, a saint in front of you, someone you thought who could help, but behind the fake smiles, the false saint-churva and feeling-good-samaritan aura is someone who could put a knife unto your back, someone who could twist your neck when you turn back. That's PLASTIC. And one more thing, plastic people can easily adapt to any environment, they can adapt to what kind of person they're talking to. punyetang mga plastic mga peke! Enough of that, I may burst out in anger and curse all of you here, I don't want that to happen. hehehe. (peace it's Christmas after all).

So why write about plastic? well maybe because plastic is everywhere, in our houses, in our schools and workplace, in our communities and in our government (maraming plastic dun). Let's admit the fact that plastic has contributed a lot, to the comfort of our homes, to the efficiency of our work, and many more. PLASTIC is everywhere. The laptop that I'm using right now is technically made up of 80% plastic, my chair is plastic, my ever-so-slow-as-a-turtle smartbro casing is a plastic, my mouse is plastic, my friends are plastic (pause), some of them not all. :)

Now let's go back to the real plastics, the real scums of the world, one of the worst inventions and one of the worst products of science. Why do i say so? Plastics are so hard to decompose i mean it takes 50-100 years for a small plastic bag to totally rot and the world is creating/manufacturing plastics every second. Not to mention the fact that plastics if not one of the cause, are the major villain of floods. People use plastic everyday as if they're eating rice, people throws plastic everywhere as if they're just throwing an ice cube that will just melt and evaporate for a short of span of time. C'mon, the plastic that we threw away would take 50 friggin' years to decompose. And you may ask, what to do on them? you can't just burn them. Aside from it destroys the ozone, it gives off an awful smell that can hurt the lungs (cough). How about burying them? then the world would be a sinkhole. Answer to that is REUSE, REDUCE & RECYCLE. dammit! And if you can't do those things, then eat your own plastic waste and die instead of letting other people suffer from your stubbornness (aheem, and I'll start eating my candy wrappers. ahaha).

Seriously now, there has been a lot of actions, advocacies and promotions on how to solve plastic problems. Yeah, a lot of them. Various international organizations has been created, the government has their own program for that, but yeah-yeah they have a program for that, another program  that they can suck the funds and be filthy rich. (Oh God Kill Them All please). Only some are serious in solving the problem, and they can never solve it. Majority of people in astonishing numbers doesn't even care. I mean what can a small group of individuals shouting on the streets to reduce, reuse and recycle do against the large number ignorant and apathetic community?

The story of David and Goliath doesn't work here. And none of these organizations and programs are serious to that matter. There was someone who said (Let's hide him with name of Jacko), that if he would become president he would ban the use, production and distribution of plastics. Here's what he said: If he would be the president of the Philippines he would ban plastics. Why? no plastic equals no trash, that simple. No plastic equals no reason for the canals to be clogged up and floods will just go all the way to the sea or wherever. No plastic production equals less power/energy consumption and less carbon emission from plastic producers and that means less choking and less deadly gases on the atmosphere.

But that would hurt the country's economy. You know what he said? Fuck it man, I don't care if companies will close and people will be jobless. Because in the long run the common people will benefit from it. The Filipino people will look for another job, young pure Filipino blood businessmen will rise up and we will eradicate those Chinese and other foreign capitalists that lurks in our country. It will be a time for pure pinoys to rise in power. And in the long run we will be saving the environment and save this damn world. People will go back to the times when all of the materials are made up of wood, silver and any metallic products. Plastic is the real evil.

Wheew, after that talk I was pondering on those things he have said. It was a crazy and bold idea. Definitely not stupid and worth listening to. I can agree to that. OI PNOY ban mo na ang PLASTIC.
